Should You Buy An Outdoor Patio Rug?

Posted by admin in March 9th 2010

You may have seen pictures of wonderful gardens kitted out almost like interior living rooms on the pages of the glossy interior design magazines and without doubt, these images featured an outdoor patio rug or two. Such a rug sets off a garden seating area like nothing else adding both color and style to your outdoor room but should you invest in one? Here are some reasons why you might.

1. They Provide a Focal Point

An outdoor rug is a great focal point in a seating area where you would normally put a large coffee table indoors. The more attractive the rug the more the eyes will be drawn to your seating area and enjoy the display.

2. They Help Color Coordination

Outdoor rugs help bring your outdoor room color scheme together. Choose a rug in the same colors as your patio cushions, or match one of the colors for best results. You can also pick out other colors in your rug for throws, tablecloth, parasol or scatter cushions for a coordinated look. These days you will find outdoor rugs in every color so there is no need to be restricted in your color choice.

3. They Add Softness

Rugs add softness underfoot on what is usually quite a hard unforgiving surface – especially important if you have a young child who likes to play on the floor. If you have a deck, it can even prevent them hurting themselves on little splinters of wood from the decking. Even for adults it means you can safely pad around in bare feet without danger of hurting yourself.

4. They Reduce Noise

You will find that the garden becomes a more tranquil place if you have a rug and if you put one near the entrance to your home it will reduce the clatter of people stepping in and out too.
