Nautical Themed Bathroom Design Ideas

Posted by admin in August 14th 2010

Whether you actually live in a seaside villa or are infatuated with the mysticism of the sea, many people choose to have a nautical-themed bathroom. Painted in varying hues of blue and white, nautical-themed bathroom design ideas can be simple or complex; allowing at-home designers to add subtle seaside touches or turn their restrooms and changing areas into welcoming seaside retreats. Before deciding to convert your bathroom to an oceanside oasis, designers must first determine how prevalent the nautical theme will be used. Do you want to limit the use of lighthouses, seagulls or sailing ships to wall art, or do you wish to outfit the entire bathroom, outside vanity area or changing room with nautically-themed rugs, towels and bathroom accessories?

After determining many much seaside-themed wall decorations and accessories are needed, purchase your largest item first and proceed from there. Since most people choose to have a shower curtain as their bathroom’s focal point, be sure to select one that represents your bathroom’s theme the strongest. For example, if choosing a lighthouse-themed bathroom, you would most likely not want to purchase a shower curtain with a pirate ship on it; unless planning to incorporate elements of both bathroom design ideas into the single room or if the shower curtain has a lighthouse on it. Once you have narrowed your theme down to one or two specific focal points, it will be easy to select related accessories.

If related accessories cannot be found, shoppers can always purchase solid-color towels, rugs and bathroom items that coordinate with the shower curtain, wall colors or artwork used. This more subtle decorating technique is also optimal for shoppers who do not want to create an overly-themed bathroom area. Easy to locate, solid color accessories will most likely also be less expensive than harder to find, nautically-themed ones.

Finally, create a room with an entire nautical theme that appeals to the senses. In addition to the visual picture you create, consider investing in some seaside scented candles, waterproof CD player with sounds of the sea, and ocean scented soap. This will allow those taking a bath to relax in comfort and truly drift away.
