Inspecting a Pine Wardrobe

Posted by admin in August 6th 2010

So you have decided to purchase yourself a pine wardrobe to put in your bedroom, living room or some other room? And you believe after all the searching through the countless catalogs, you have found the right one. Before you run to the store and hand your money over to the eager salesman waiting with his/her hand out, have a read at this pine wardrobe guide that I’ve put together. I’m going to cover some basic things you can and should do before making the actual transaction.

Like buying anything else, you should always be cautious and check the product. Particularly in this case, you’re dealing with a big ticket item that you’re going to spend quite a lot of money on plus you’re going to be using it often in your life. Please note that these concepts are only applicable for ready-made wardrobes as suppose to bespoke contemporary fitted wardrobes.

Firstly, pictures of wardrobes (or anything else) in a catalog can sometimes be deceiving. The design, shape and color shown in the picture may not match the actual object. Even if the dimensions of the wardrobe are provided and you know that it will fit fine in your room, you should still go to the store and look at the item for yourself. The reason being that there might be certain aspects you haven’t considered when simply looking at a picture. For example, if the wardrobe has double doors which open via hinges on either side, would there be sufficient space in your room to allow for this? This goes the same for any drawers in the unit.

Another thing to look out for is the quality of the wood. The advertisement may not be specific on the material for all the components of the wardrobe. For example, upon closer inspection, you may find that the wardrobe is not really solid pine but in fact, MDF wood construction with a pine wood finish only. If it is a solid pine wardrobe, you want to check the knots on the surface to make sure they aren’t too severe such that the structure is compromised.
