How Much Will It Cost To Install A Tin Backsplash

Posted by admin in July 8th 2010

While a tin backsplash can be a great addition to a kitchen or bath, an online shopper needs to do some research on its affordability.  There are a great range of prices and quality on the market today. A discerning home renovator will want to have a price range in mind, as well as a choice of either real tin, another type of metal, or faux tin.

Metal backsplashes can be one of the most pricey materials on the market, but not all tin is this way. Metal is also a tough material and it can be pretty unforgiving when it comes to cutting and placing. The costs can run anywhere from $2O bucks a square foot, all of the way up to $175, if mounting and installation are included.

There are, however, ways to save some green. If a homeowner is handy, installing tin tiles is a project that takes relatively little time.  Unlike many other house renovations , installing kitchen or bath backsplashes can be accomplished in hours, not days. As with any improvement projects, the costs of materials is dependent upon whether exclusive stainless steel to match appliances is the desire, or will simple pressed tin panels satisfy the lady of house’s dreams?

Tin panels tend to come in 24×24 inch sizes.  The molding usually is sold in four foot sections. There are literally hundreds of panels to choose from, making the selection somewhat difficult but also lots of fun.  While tin is the most popular, there are also other metals that can be considered like copper and brass.

Some homeowners like to add a patina to give their tin backsplash an aged look. This can be done using acids, however, this is an area that is best left to a professional. Some metals will also age all by themselves, like copper. Tin is unlikely to develop a true patina over time and may be best to be sealed to protect its original appearance.
