Concrete Block Paver Options

Posted by admin in March 8th 2010

If you are looking for a way to create your own patio, walkway or driveway, then you may want to consider block paving as an option.  You can install pavers yourself without a great deal of heavy equipment or machinery, such as you would if you were laying a solid surface material like cement or blacktop, or a more intricate material, such as irregularly shaped stones that require a lot of cutting as well as a lot of design work.

One option for paving that you can do yourself is to install concrete blocks.  These come in a variety of sizes and shapes and are a great choice for creating a driveway or making a more intricate pattern for a patio.  They’re also a good option for creating walkways or even can be built up into a small exterior wall.  The blocks can have finishes that look like concrete, or they can look like bricks or other finished stones.  You can also get them in a variety of color choices as well.

If you want to install these types of blocks yourself, the most important part of the process is to ensure that you have a level surface underneath where the blocks will be laid.  Once this step is done, the process of actually laying the pavers is not that difficult.  You just need to measure out the area and then lay out your pattern.   You are best off laying all of the whole bricks in the pattern and then leaving all of the pieces that need to be cut for the end.

Once your area has been covered, you will then need to fill the spaces between the pavers with some type of sand or other joint filler.  What you fill the spaces with will depend on the type of blocks you use and the location of the installation.
