Brass Door Handles Come in Many Shapes and Sizes

Posted by admin in August 5th 2010

If you are looking for something to enhance your door accessories you may want to look into buying a brass door handle set. Brass door handles look elegant and add sophistication to a door. They can totally change a door from being a rather nondescript item in a home to looking fashionable and in chic.

Many people automatically think that brass door handles belong in the past, and that the only ones you can find these days are antique handles. However, that is not at all the case. There are many modern designed handles made from brass, with more manufacturers producing these now than in the recent past. These handles can be many different shapes and sizes.  A door handle differs from a door knob, in that it is long and thin, whereas a door knob is spherical in shape.

Handles will sometimes be used on inside doors; however they are more commonly used on outer doors. Usually brass handles will be part of a brass lock set but you can also buy and install them separately. Some handles are the type that is pulled down in order to open the door. Other handles are fixed onto the door by a screw that is placed at the top and the bottom of the handle.  Many of these handles are fairly plain in nature, however some are quite intricately designed with patterns etched into them or grooves made along the side of the handle.

If you are looking to add an antique door lock and handle set to your door, you will find that there are plenty of antique replica handles for sale. If you want a genuine antique handle you can usually also find these online, often sold by antique dealers. Some are in better condition than others, but many that are for sale have been reconditioned and repaired so that you are able to use them.
